Sony Reveals PlayStation Network game, Rain

At Gamescom yesterday, Sony revealed a new PlayStation Network game entitled, Rain. In Rain, you play as an invisible boy who can only be seen under pouring rain. The boy is not alone however and the trailer below suggests there is an entire world that rain can reveal. As the boy explores in the rain, you can see other invisible characters and even enemies. A four legged invisible creature is seen chasing the boy at one point. Sony is staying tight-lipped about the game right now so not much more is known concerning the actual story or gameplay but the concept is very intriguing. So far there is no release date but I think it'd be safe to say we can expect to see the Rain on the PS3 sometime in 2013. Keep an eye on Game Quest for future updates on Rain.

Sony Announces Until Dawn

Today at Gamescom, Sony announced Until Dawn, a survival horror title being developed by Supermassive Games exclusively for the PS Move. Additionally, Sony revealed a chilling trailer showing some tense gameplay. Until Dawn is based on cliche teen horror movies such as Friday the 13th, Scream and Halloween, so you can expect a lot of dead phone lines, sudden power outages and a hot, ditzy cheerleader.

The plot will follow a group of classmates (presumably High School) who on the anniversary of a former friends disappearance, decide to visit the last place he was seen. Strangely enough, it was a log cabin in the woods on a mountain side; it doesn't get much more isolated than that. After people in the group start turning up dead though, the teens suddenly regret digging up the past.

You'll be able to play as different characters in the party throughout the game. Sometimes you will be alone and sometimes you will have a partner as you fight to stay alive and frantically search for clues to investigate who is killing your friends. Executive Creative Director Will Byles [expects] that Until Dawn will draw you in with its characters, chilling setting and shocking, twisted story. He also suggests in his statements about the game that as you play, you will make choices which will determine which of your friends survive and what kind of ending you get.

Since Until Dawn is being developed exclusively for the PS Move, players will utilize the move controller to aim a flashlight in the darkness, examine clues and activate things such as levers. Sony promises the move controller will reflect natural movements of players in the game which will even further immerse them in the horror experience of Until Dawn.

So what do you think? Does the prospect of a survival horror title engineered for the PS Move sound intriguing or is it too soon to tell? The last motion based survival horror game, Rise of Nightmares for the Kinect definitely came up short but Until Dawn already looks like it has much more potential. The survival horror genre has been a little weak recently with very few titles or games that don't live up to the survival horror experience; so it is nice to see an original title being developed. Check out the trailer and keep an eye out here for more news on Until Dawn.

Michael Fassbender Cast in Assassin's Creed Movie

Ubisoft Motion Pictures recently revealed that Michael Fassbender will be donning the cloaks of Assassin, Altair for the movie adaptation of Assassin's Creed. Fassbender's most notable roles include Lt. Archie Hicox from Inglorious Bastards, Magneto from X-Men: First Class and the Android, David from Prometheus.

According to Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, Fassbender was their first choice and he will also co-produce the film. Ubisoft Motion Pictures originally had plans to work with Sony on the movie but chose to develop the film on their own to maintain greater control over the story line and deliver an experience fans of the game will also enjoy.

I've brainstormed several times about what possible actors could play the role of Altair and I had never considered Fassbender. However, after reading the report, he seems like an obvious and excellent choice. Fassbender is a very talented actor and should have no trouble portraying Altair. If you haven't yet, you should see him in Prometheus or X-Men: First Class where his excellent acting abilities are really showcased.

How do you feel about Michael Fassbender being cast as Altair? Will he pull it off or did you have someone else in mind?

Sony sets big expectations for E3 press conference

Sony is promising to usher in "The future of gameplay and innovation" at their E3 press conference this year. However, Sony CEO Kaz Hirai has already confirmed there will be NO hardware or console announcements at E3. Instead Sony has stated they're going to focus on presenting their new products and services this year. What could possibly be so innovative and isn't a new console? Will it be something related to PlayStation Move? Or should we expect some kind of massive overhaul to the PlayStation Network? Nothing is for sure yet and we won't know what exactly Sony has planned until their press conference during E3 on June 6 at 6:oo P.M. pacific time.

Sony Reveals Platform Brawler: PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale

Rumors and speculations have been swirling for months concerning Sony's 'brawler' themed game and it's finally been revealed. Play-Station All-Stars: Battle Royale in a nutshell is Sony's version of Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. All-Stars will feature characters exclusive to the PlayStation platform that battle it out with unique fighting styles and moves in evolving arenas taken from Sony exclusive games. The game was revealed at a Sony press conference in Los Angeles where attendees were given a chance to play the game. The video posted below shows the game itself in action.

While All-Stars is similar to Super Smash Bros, the game brings its own ideas to the table and has much to offer, especially to big Sony fans. The game features a unique scoring system forces players to beat the snot out of each other to gain AP. Gaining AP allows players to use a special meter which has three levels of intensity. Players reported that on the third tier of his special, Sweet Tooth could transform into his mech and annihilate the competition. Kratos on the other hand dons the familiar armor from GOW2 and hacks other players up with the Blade of Olympus. It's interesting to see what the specials of other characters such as Nathan Drake- who will undoubtedly be present- will be like since he has no supernatural abilities.

So far the only characters that have been revealed are Parrapa the Rapper, Kratos, Sweet Tooth, Colonel Radec, Sly Cooper, and Fat Princess. All characters have a unique skill-set and attacks. Colonel Radec apparently meant to be a ranged fighter but can engage in close combat with Sweet Tooth can plant mines or Sly Cooper has the ability to turn invisible in lieu of have no ability to block. However, Sly cooper can apparently steal precious AP from other players which gives him quite the advantage. Parappa the Rapper who doesn't have much of combat background beside his kung-fun training incorporates signing and skating into his skills. While only six characters have been revealed more are surely on the way such as Nathan Drake, Sackboy, and Cole McGrath.

As for the arenas, developer SuperBot has taken a unique approach to create an evolving arena. One arena begins in the underworld with Hades attempting to smash players with his axes. So while you fight against other players you have to mindful of where that axes lands as it will create a shockwave type of effect. Then it isn't long before the Patapon army invades the scene to distract the angry god but now you have to watch out for the spears they start lunging at you. Other levels seen included elements from Little Big Planet, Ratchet and Clank, and even the game BUZZ! invades the game forcing players to answer questions to avoid taking damage.

From what's been made available for our viewing pleasure, the game definitely looks fun and I can't wait to see more on it. No doubt Sony already has a slot for All-Stars lined up during their press conference at E3.
